Specialty Ornaments 2018

These ornaments are new, original designs for Midwest-CBK’s line of Specialty Ornaments for the 2018 holiday season. Designs begin with sketches and concepting based on direction or text given for the new line. Then those ideas move on to final specs which are then translated into sculpted designs. After rounds of revisions of shape and paint color, the final product is made and sold to decorate for the holidays or any day!

My name is Jacquelyn. I make stuff; it’s my job. Sometimes I use pencils and a sketchbook; other times I use paintbrushes and a pen. Then I use a computer to make all of it come together. Check out some of my work.

  • I went looking for a hardcover copy of “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds for a blog giveaway commemorating my business’s upcoming 10th anniversary and discovered THERE WAS AN AUTOGRAPHED COPY. (True story: I stood there and first looked sided to side because I briefly wondered if I was being punked.) Apparently, there are/were 2 autographed copies of this book in every Target, AND if you post a picture of yourself holding the book inside the store, an original, autographed dot watercolor from the artist will be sent to you. Usually, taking and posting a selfie in a busy store at the height of holiday shopping would not be at the top of my list, however—

Months ago, my mom gave a paperback edition to my daughter as a gift, knowing I’d love it, too. I’m generally not one prone to cry, but this book had me holding back tears the first time I read it to her (…and sometimes still now). I won’t spoil the book for you, but suffice it to say, making marks on a page takes more courage than it seems. Most anyone who works in art or design will tell you that the aftermath of the economic recession and its effect on the industry has at times been, in a word, brutal. This book is such a wonderful story for anyone who dares to make a mark on a page—and then passes that encouragement on to someone else to be brave enough to do the same.

Thanks for the fun surprise, @Target and @peterhreynolds! :) ‪#TargetDot #goldenticket #kidlit #creativitytakescourage ‬#illustratorsoninstagram #artistsoninstagram

P.S. If you can’t tell, I’m rapidly losing my nerve to have this *particular* copy of this book in that blog giveaway.

P.P.S. When I get around to doing the giveaway, I’ll post it on @CharmDesignStudio and @eclecticaffinity.blog on Instagram
  • It was a Christmas-decorating, snowman-building, pancake-making, snowball-fighting, cookie-baking kind of weekend. (There was also work, because #freelancelife.) We’re 99% sure we found the gingerbread recipe we used last year. (It’s the King Arthur brand flour recipe.) #snow #December #deckthehalls #gingerbread #snowflakes #pancakes #weekend
  • I’m so proud of this guy! @adamarends debuted one of the things he’s been working on for a while. (You can learn more about it at @pivotoptimizations .) Back when I started my business, he was blown away by the lack of accessible resources available for businesses. Through that and his financial analyst experience, he became really interested in streamlining the processes that go into making a business operate more effectively. (Sometimes businesses waste more time and money going the DIY ‘bootstrapping’ route than anything else.) He and the team have subscription plans and resources for everything from business launches to financial and project management. Entrepreneurs already have to work hard, so why not save some time and also work smart?

Congrats on your launch, Sweetheart! 🥂🍾 🎉💗 *Wifey sidenote: per his last Instagram post, he finally passed my inbox size. 😆 He used to give me THE most grief about the number of messages I had.

#EntrepreneurLife #DeskMates #ThisShouldReallyBeSponsoredLOL #DeskSet #XOXOXO #LogoAndBusinessCardsByHisLovelyWifeOfCourse #RidiculousHashtagsAmuseMe *Pivot will be on Facebook again once we give Facebook their obligatory eye of newt and drop of blood from our first born. 🙄
  • Too cute not to share. Miss Munchkin recently added amateur photographer to her repertoire. She recently watched me take some quick pics for a couple of my business ventures, so she did, too. 😄

She’s seen @AdamArends and I take pics for our stock photo hobby @pixelumina (i.e. we aren’t the “take your family photo” type photographers but we’ll happily recommend to you the folks we know who do that) which got her interested in taking photos a while back. You can see the recent pictures that inspired her on Instagram and Facebook at @CharmDesignStudio and @EclecticAffinity.blog.

LOOK how good of a job she did!!!! She put all the tiny pumpkins arranged around a tiny cupcake stand and a pine cone! 💗 Similar, right?!? She’s taken a lot of pics on that camera! After she shoots one that she likes she says “I’m gonna post it” to “Instagwam.” (The handle is minus “.blog” for Facebook. They’re also on Twitter, but I might be one of the only people I know who prefers Twitter. The accounts are mostly run by a scheduling app I maintain between work and freelance commitments, but I try to keep up with them as I can. I don’t post my biz stuff a ton on my personal accounts cuz it makes me feel like an Amway rep. 😂🤷🏻‍♀️) #proudmommy #familyhobby #thefamilythatshootstogetherwaitthatsoundsweird #munchkinmemories
