Minnesota State of Mind

In fairness, Minnesota wasn’t even where I was registered to vote in that election, but when answering a call for student design entries on the topic “what makes Minnesota stand out,” I chose this as a humorous quote to illustrate because of how pleased I was over how well a martini glass fit into this fine state’s shape. It was just too irresistible to pass up. Way to go, Mississippi and St. Croix Rivers! Formations like you make what I do so much more fun! (No hard feelings, Jesse. Really. Apologies about being drawn as an olive though…) For the record Minnesota, you’ve been great—such an awesome art scene here. Knowing a bit more about the technical aspects of illustration now than I did in college, I just recently tweaked this a bit to clean it up to post online. Cheers!

How funny is Lewis Black though? If ever there was more perfect casting done than there was for Inside Out, I can’t think of any off the top of my head. (He voiced Anger.) Well done, Natalie Lyon and Kevin Reher. (And well done, IMDb, where I can conveniently look up casting directors’ names.)

Check out Lewis’s stand-up routine including this segment on Minnesota and democracy (featuring the quote from this illustration) over on Comedy Central.

You can also check out Ventura who recently made the news in his support of the freedom to peaceably protest. Well done, sir.

  • *Day 2 of Snowman Observation* ⛄️
So far, Miss Munchkin and I have observed no singing or dancing. Undeterred, we tried hats. (It worked for Frosty.) Multiple hats were tried to no effect—knit hat, pink kitty hat, purple kitty hat, an Olaf hat. Elsa was little help. 😄 #snowmansighting #pinkkittyhat #frostythefeminist #olaf #projectpuddle #maybenextyear
  • When your daughter gives you her necklace to wear to work, it’s too sweet to turn down. It’s a craft project we made together that she calls “The Heart of DVD” because she thinks that’s what Moana is saying (it’s The Heart of Te Fiti), and it’s too cute to correct. #stillwearingitatlunch #MommyandMe
  • Colorful eggs, a munchkin who filled her basket much faster than last year, a pretty dress from Gramma, a kitchen that smells like rosemary and thyme, some absurdly large plastic eggs, and the sounds of so many giggles 🌷🐰🐣 Happy Easter! #Easter2018 #shesgrowingsofast #EasterSunday #egghunt
  • Pizza night! 🍕 @adamarends took a pizza class with the guy who wrote the Betty Crocker Italian cookbook, and it’s ruined ever really enjoying pizza made any other way! 😆 Not complaining though! #yum #pizzanight #basil
